CONSCIENCE VOTE ISSUES

CONSCIENCE VOTE ISSUES

Policy
Candidates have freedom to follow their conscience on the following issues, however, our preference is for greater participatory democracy in Australia and trust of the Australian people by our politicians and elites to openly debate important issues - including as follows:

  • Marriage definition – Sustainable Australia sees a plebiscite as the best way to democratically determine this important issue. Both sides should be free to present their case on a level playing field. Sustainable Australia expects the vote to support same-sex marriage. The will of the broader Australian population should prevail.
  • Republic – Sustainable Australia sees a national plebiscite as the best way to re-commence deliberations on this important issue. A plebiscite should propose that Australia should have an Australian head of state. Both sides should be free to present their case on a level playing field. The will of the broader Australian population should prevail.
  • Voluntary euthanasia – Sustainable Australia sees a national plebiscite as the best way to democratically determine this important issue. Both sides should be free to present their case on a level playing field. Sustainable Australia expects the vote to support voluntary euthanasia. The will of the broader Australian population should prevail.
